The Churches...

                                                                                                                          Home!

The Cathedral (Church of San Nicola) – this church was built around 1400 on the ruins of an ancient church. The Gothic style makes the Cathedral looks similar to a fortress. The structure is a Latin cross with a nave and two aisles. The ceiling has wooden beams that are carved in Arabic style.

St. Joseph Church - Of neogothic style, The church  has been rebuilt in 1929 after the earthquake of 1929.  The church is located in the main street and it actually keeps the Don Bosco traditions, a man who dedicated himself to the poors of Messina.

Church of San Pancrazio – This church stands on the ruins of a Greek temple. The Church of San Pancrazio (patron saint of Taormina) was built around the middle of the sixteenth century. The interior is filled with multi-colored marble and Taormina stone, and contains a fantastic fresco depicting the martyrdom of San Pancrazio. This beautiful church is often closed to the public.

St. Catherine's Church - The exact construction date of this church, consecrated to St.Catherine of Alexandria in Egypt and located in the centre of the city opposite Palazzo Corvaja, is not known. It is thought to date back to 1663, the year engraved on the tablet of the ossuary found outside the church and now located in the wall beside the staircase which leads to the crypt.  The entrance door to the sacresty is on the left of the portal; the sacresty is thought to have been built before the Church, i.e. during the 16th century. The facade of the sacresty is decorated with two small windows ornated with sea shells, the same decoration used on the architrave of its door.  As it was built on the ruins of the Odeon, the remains of which can be seen behind the church, part of the orchestra and scene were destroyed.

CHIESA MADONNA DELLA ROCCA - This church is maybe the most beutiful place for your wedding in taormina.  it is located in the high part of the town and the view as you can see is simply amazing.  It is a nice place also for your photos as from the church you cab have a marvellous view of the town!
